The artist Peter Maas bought a bare boat in March 2020 and embarked on a project to turn his 1973 Tukkervlet into a work of art, and it shows well in the beautiful wooden rope tables, luggage rack, rope work, cuckoo (escape hatch), the pulpit with stainless steel anchor and a veritable figurehead, depicting the water nymph Galatea from Greek mythology, the ship's name. He sailed with this for six months for four years through the Netherlands, garnering much praise from bridge and lock keepers. Likewise, many photos were taken of it.
Peter insulated his ship well throughout and provided a wooden wheelhouse with many windows, also with aluminum frames. Even with a panorama window at the rear that can be fully opened and fitted with a sun awning. All windows are equipped with a sealant edge on the outside to prevent rust and leaks. There are also fitted screens, equipped with sewn-in magnets, to keep out the heat on a summer day.
The vessel has under the aft deck a king-size bed 2.30 meters long and 2.00 meters wide with a good medical mattress in it. The mattress was custom made by a studio and special bottom sheets are included. Under the bed is a luggage space of the same size. If desired, this can also be made into 2 separate beds again with an aisle and stairs, but that is less cozy.
The boat is equipped with a solid and well maintained Mercedes 615 engine with 4 cylinders. When it sees the key it already starts. There are also 2 years ago 2 new Vetus 230 amp. batteries put in and the powerful Vetus 57 kfg bow thruster has its own 200 amp. Vetus battery. Everything is charged by separate CTEK fully automatic battery chargers.
The 2000/4000 watt Whisperpower inverter is hidden out of sight behind a nice cabinet. The large 350 Watt solar panels provide power. With the 312 liter cemented water tank included, you can lie free for a long time because you are self-sufficient. The water tastes like spring water.
The Dometic 80 liter refrigerator/freezer is only one year old.
In the nice toilet with a vacuum toilet system disappears everything with a kick on the trade. These are also always used in airplanes. A 120 liter holding tank catches everything, so you already meet the new regulations against discharges on the water. Last year, the ship was fitted with a larger rudder with a V-line on it and bilge keels were installed, which is very nice for quickly absorbing fluctuations and falling dry on the mud flats. This spring, the ship was painted on the underside, so it will not have to be taken out of the water in the near future.
In short, the ship is ready to board and Peter has provided it with first class materials and equipment. These include a Hummingbird onboard computer, compass and VHF radio.
Now the ship is going away, because it is finished and he has found a new project. A skûtsje, on which he wants to live.
